I was wondering if I could get some suggestions on replacements motor mounts on my 1986. I have installed a pretty healthy 383 about 2 years ago. I’m pretty sure my mounts have given up to the increased torque and y the use of my heavy right foot.
Looking forward to find out what others are using, stock, solid, poly Mounts.
Thanks
Matt
I threw a set of prothane mounts on my 84 after the upgrades. Idk if its a placebo or what but it feels like the front got tighter... IE the motor doesn't seem to feel like it moves or twists as much under throttle modulation. But going to aluminum heads from cast could do that with the less mass too...
I went to poly mounts after my 10 year old mounts settled so much I couldn't get the serpentine belt under the crank pulley. The clamshell still didn't allow noticeable movement.
….. I have Poly on the right … solid on the left … to me , feeling the symphony enhances the whole sensation … l guess that's why so many people put sub-woofers in their cars and homes …..
Spent a few hours in my friends garage tonight. Putting the car on the lift made the job so much easier on my joints and back.
The mounts that were installed with the 383 two years ago were so loose in the clamshells, causing the engine to move a lot. It broke the oil pressure gauge copper line twice in the last 2 months from it.
I finally replace the line with a braided steel hose.
The poly inserts fit snug and will hopefully last longer.
it was a good night, replaced engine mounts, installed shocks and had a bunch of Buffalo wings with my son and my friend.
Stock on the left, poly on the right. Clamshells Had to be split to install poly insert.
The stock mounts for me were a no-go. I tried them for a year and I'm half surprised the engine stayed in the car.
Then I firmed them up with window urethane. No noticeable improvement.
I tried poly inserts but for some reason they annoy the crap out of me.
Ended up making solid mounts. No issues.
Some guy seen my car and asked if they would work for his stock L98 C4. I ended up selling him 10 sets of solid mounts, no idea what he did with them.
I did my mounts on my '86 coupe a few years ago. I don't remember all the details but nothing out of the ordinary. I did the polyurethane conversion like Dr. Huxtable https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...yurethane.html

These were originally intended to be Camaro left side bushing replacement for the clam shell motor mount. For our Corvette (with the early clam shell style) you will need to order two.
