Maybe this should be in the general discussion section, but here goes. I have been looking for the step by step instructions for setting the IAC counts with the Tech 1. By step by step instructions I mean starting with plug the scanner into a power outlet, turn on the scanner, enter code (?) etc. I want to know exactly how to do this. I have the scanner and adaptor for my 89 coupe. I just for the life of me figure out how to do this, might be a senior thing. Thanks to all for any help you can provide. Mike

You aren't setting IAC counts manully. Idle learn fails under special functions menu. Instructions come up on screen.
In engine data you will see TPS voltage. You may see throttle %, should be 0 at idle. IAC should show counts 20-30.
Any particular problem?

Make sure timing is spot on. I get the engine to operating temp, turn everything off except the motor.

See how many counts. If it is more than target, I turn the screw in, rev and let it settle down before recheck. If it is less turn the screw out, rev and recheck. If it is 0 and stays 0 in spite of you turning the screw out, you have an air leak. Once all is said and done, adjust the TPS if you have one. If not, shut down and restart and the baseline will be the pedal at whatever it is at.

If you are trying to adjust idle, it is done , assuming no leaks exists, with a voltmeter on the TPS sensor, then, only if needed adjust the idle screw (which came from the factory with a metal cover installed that is likely long been removed. a/c off, etc.
Proceedure is in the factory service manaul.

And assuming your tach is accurate which it probably isn't.
