Default Help with convertible top

86 soft top. I have a bar running from the rear passenger side (yellow arrow) that should run to the drivers side. The bar had come off. I can’t get enough torque to twist it back in place.

Is there a secret or tip to get this bar back in place? I believe this is why I can’t get the rear deck lid to open.

thanks

Passenger side. Bar is top right

End of bar that should attach to drivers side

That is the spring torsion bar that pops the hatch open, you should be able to hit the release and pull hard to open the hatch. I took these off years ago on my 89 to have painted and put them back on. I don't remember any particular difficulty. Maybe you need a second pair of hands and an object to leverage it.

That worked. I inherited this and didn’t know there were release buttons on side of door. Once I hit those release buttons the tension on the bar was released. Thanks.
