Default crate engines

Does anyone know where to get a crate engine for an 1986. I have an early 86 with cast heads. Would like to know part numbers for stock and for performance engines and where to look online. I know i am asking alot.

Yeah a Scoggin Dickey catalog is your best bet for a crate motor.

a ZZ4 is a direct replacement, with better heads, although it does have a different cam and is carburated and you will have to switch over your cam if you dont want a reprogrammed chip and you have to switch over your intake to retain EFI

I swapped a ZZ4 into my 85 this summer. Everything went great. Had to modify the crossmember so the dampner fit but that was not to difficult. The TPI bolted on just fine and so far the stock computer is working fine. ie. no codes or check engine light. I know there is chip in my future but the stock is causing no problems. This setup passed Texas emission tests. I bought the engine from Go Autocenter in Dallas, they had the best price I could find on the net. http://www.goautocenter.com/

the vortech crate engines are also a great deal if you don't mind the weight, all you need is a scoggin doggy lower manifold to be a direct swap. my only argument with the zz4 these days is how darn expensive it is. you can build a real clearanced, balanced & just generally nasty 350 for bairly more than what they cost.
