trouble code 34
I just replaced the engine in my 87 vette. Replaced the complete exhaust, new injectors, gaskets ..etc.
the car runs rough, and has a code 34. I went through the factory manual and everything checks out. Checked all the vacuum lines everything is connected. replaced all the intake gaskets. Let it run for a while and the front exhaust pipe started glowing red hot. I have since replaced the cat. I have swapped the mass air flow sensors with one for my 85 and no change.
any idea what could be causing a code 34?

Timing or leak.
Trouble Code 34 indicates that the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor is reporting less air is entering the engine than makes sense based on RPM and TPS. I would think either your TPS voltage is not correct or you are getting air into the engine the MAF is not seeing. Especially since you swapped MAFs. What RPM are you seeing while it runs? A really lean condition can cause glowing manifolds. What 02 readings are you seeing?
Timing could be off enough that is it firing late and you are getting fuel burning in the manifolds. This should be easy enough to check.
