Default vss wiring

I have a 85 used to be 4+3 but with a ZF 6 speed. In order to connect the VSS I'm looking for a yellow and purple wire, but I cant find any connector in the gearbox harness with these colours. Information taken from the wiring diagram in the 1985 shop manual. The connector in the far end of the harness has two brown wires and one purple and black, could this be the vss input?

No (I wouldn't think) - follow further towards the front of that harness up to maybe actually the 'dash grommet' if you had to. What is in the car presently for drive train? ECM etc? Is it an original '85 L98 with factory ECM etc still up under dash?

Harness routing is likely on page 163 in the wiring diagram section of an '85 FSM. If your FSM has the actual wiring diagram for the complete car you might check that looking for 400 & 401 wire confirmations.
