Default Still having problems!!!!!!

:mad I am still having problems with my exhaust. I got the exhaust manifold off, but I might have broken my oil dip stick in the process? I remember 65Z01 saying that it breaks easy, well mine just turns, it didnt snap or anything, it just moves like its on a swivel, I don't know if its broken or not? Ok next problem, I cleaned off the left over gasket on my EM, but I can't get all of it off on the head! Especially the part by the heater core! Next problem, I can't get those two 15MM bolts out that hold the part up the exhaust up where the cat meets the front Y-pipe! Next, I only have 5 Y-pipe bolts, the other one was on the broken stud which I can't get off! I get my exhaust manifold gaskets tommorrow, but not I have to get EGR gaskets too! My whole car is a mess, I have more problems then what I have mentioned too. I don't know if this car is every going to run again! This friday is the last friday that the track is open too! I hope I can make it! Most likely not the way my luck goes with this car, I can't even make it too school or work! :mad :cuss :mad :cuss :mad

I hate to tell you this red but I think your gonna have to drop the whole exhaust. That way you can get it on the ground and go at it with a torch. A torch is the only way to deal with broken studs and bolts.
As for the dipstick ........yes it will turn in it's hole. That's why they have that little ear on them .......to hold them straight :seeya

I got the broken stud out, I just have to get everything back together. I have to get the last two bolts out to drop the old Y-pipe, but they are giving me trouble. So the Dip stick isn't broken? Thats a relief. Well the EM gaskets came today, so I will try to get everything back together, I need an EGR gasket though. Thanks.

Have you been soaking the bolts in PB Blaster? That usually works pretty well to loosen rusted nuts and bolts.

Also, when you re-assemble everything, be sure to use some anti-sieze on the threads.

Yes, I have been using PB blaster on the bolts. Use anti seize on the EM bolts that go into the head? Or every bolt I take out?

Ok progress update....

I got the Y-pipe and cat completely off, and cut the A.I.R. tube to fit the new cat. I also got all the gaskets off the head and EM. I finished my fuel pump, just have to put that little rubber piece over the gas cap. I found out my coolant temp sensor broke when we were pulling the EM out. I am going to drain that to get everything out of the block, and get a new one at work tommorrow. Also I need to get a new EGR gasket, and I am going to need to get a few new bolts and nuts. So tommorrow I am going to start to put the car back together. Any ideas on how to start or where to go from? I was thinking of bolting the EM up first, just enough so its on the car, then connect the A.I.R. and the Y-pipe and cat and that A.I.R. tube, and connect everything else and tighten everything down, also put anti sieze on all exhaust bolts.

I found BRASS nuts at NAPA for the EM where the pipes hook to them...... work better than never seize but I had forgotten about such things........ I wouldn't use never seize on the manifold bolts. Also just a pointer...... I would go ahead and tighten the EM bolts to the heads BEFORE going on to the rest of the exhaust because if you have so many bolts loose at once you may forget one or two or some. I usually tell my students to NOT tighten any bolts until they are all started but that is for each component. Install a component and the tighten then go on to the next component :seeya

Ok newest update. Vettmech, you were right, It was easier to tighten the EM bolts to the head first. But I tightened the Y-pipe to the EM to much and couldn't get the two bolts that hold up the cat, so I had to loosen everything and after that I have a few more bolts to tighten and some more connections and put the cat back system on, and hopefully I can start the car up without any exhaust leaks. I have a feeling I will have one though, but there is only one way to find out. Thanks for all the help.
