My hookers were the first headers I did not have to mess with to get to fit. So far I love them....Why don't you want them. They must be in the same price range.
You might have to work them to make it fit. I have almost "0" clearence between the #8 pipe and the A/C blower box with my Hedman. Burning fiberglass smells :U
I have a set of Headman elites on my suburban, they are great. 14 ga, and ceramic coated inside and out, and run cooler than most, and have a good warranty. Don't know much about the vette application, but I really like the set on my truck. Got them from Summit, and I'd bet you'll run into some sort of fitment issues with nearly EVERY header out there, unless you run shorties. -J
My headmans fit fine. I did get them coated, which I highly recommend. Headmans will rust pretty quickly.
If their coated for $200, that's a good deal, if not, coating will be another $200. I bought an uninstalled Vanderzanden exhaust kit, headman headers, 2.5" pipe. I had the headers coated. I finally trashed the porly(sp?) fitting pipes and had a local exhaust guy bend me a 3" dual system ($300) using the LT1 factory hangers.
If I were to do it all over again, I'd buy the coated supercomps, and have a local exhast shop bend me some duals. I came out to about that price, but I've got the smaller (1 5/8" vs. 1 3/4") headers.
The good news is the headmans and 2.5" exhause gave me 254hp/354tq at the wheels. I haven't tested the 3" yet, but I expect it to be no different.
The problem area on my L98 is the pipe bend coming right off the flange. It looks as if it could have been bent a few more degrees forward and in toward the block. I burned the box so bad that it broke when I tried to remove it. I had them coated inside and out.
The one thing that was cool was we had the valve covers off with the engine running and oil was spurting out onto the headers. No! Burning oil all over the headers was not cool but, after an hours worth of running time, the oil is almost completely burned off like it never happened.
My mistake was not having them fit before I got them coated. :bb
mine's a '90. I don't think there's any difference on fittment. Even the LT1 guys use L98 headers. There's probably some differences from header-to-header from manufactureing, which would explain some fitment problems.
Unfortunately I don't have any pictures, but they sure do clean up the engine bay, those and the AIR eliminator kit. :yesnod:
Changing plugs difficulty will vary by install. Here is my senerio for instance. Even w/o all the emission plumbing I'd say my passenger side is more difficult than when stock. Part of it is the dipstick tube, it's not held on by the header bolt like it is with the stock manifold bolt. Another part is the angle of the tubes themselves. But worst of all I have the Taylor boot covers and they take up most of the space left over between plugs. I bought one of those boot remover tools and I have a cut down spark plug socket to make things easier.
I have just fitted Heddmans to my 90 auto they fit without having to remove anything, i had no body or chassis clearence issues.
The "only" thing i was not happy with was they do not fit the 113 heads correctly in terms of alingment which could lead to leaks and burned gaskets later if you do not check it on installation. I had to slot the bolt holes .100 " to move the pipes upward to be level with the top of the exhaust port. I then welded on the bolt tubes from my original manifolds to ensure they stop in the correct position.
For the money i am very pleased with them
( i have not got the money for hookers or tpis etc )
I have coated mine, but i have not run the car in anger yet so i have no idea on actual gains.
I forgot to say regards plugs, i struggled for a bit with a plug socket. I then tried a 14mm double ended ring spanner and found i can get all my plugs with that after winding them in finger tight by hand.
