The clip that is on the TPS pigtail has a broken clip so I wrapped the pigtail connector to the TPS with some electrical tape to keep it from pulling out. I'd like to buy a new pigtail, but since the wires run down to a group of wrapped wires going to various final locations. I want to strip the three wires before they go into the bundle. Would I be making a mistake doing that?
No, just be careful. Solder the wires, do not crimp connect. The tape solution will turn to mush under heat after a while. And wrap the harness with loom or tape.
One other option would be to remove the terminals from the old connector and insert them into the new connector, Then it would be/look original. There's a tool to remove the terminals. It's cheap, and does the job. Just make sure you bend the terminal tabs a little, so they lock into the connector

Why not purchase a new three wire male pigtail or empty connector, remove the pins from it and do the same with your broken connector clip and then place your OEM pins into the new three pin replacement male connector. You'll need a special pin pick tool to do this.

Year matters here 'maybe' - you mentioned clip! Is it maybe just the lock on the connector housing?

The TPS on my '89 C4 has three pins your model year may be different.
Thanks for the thought and links. I was also thinking about removing the pins from the new connector and pull the pins from old to install. For some reason I never thought about just getting a new connector so your reply saves me an unneeded step.

The connector on the housing is fine, The clip that attaches to it on the pigtail is broken. It's a 91. Every week that goes by i always find new little project, but that is life with a 29 year old car.

Is it just the 'fold over' that secures the terminal/seal on the back-side OR the actual locking tab that secures it to the TPS? Isn't a '91 actually a Weather-Pack? If it's a Weather-Pack as I suspect everything should be local! CHEAP!!!! Weather-Pack can be assembled with either female or male terminals. I'd think a '91 would require male terminals but I've seen that connector pigtail actual mentioned as being either.

A local buy for a complete pigtail is likely $10 maybe less!!! Pieces maybe less!
Yes, that is the TPS in my 91. The pigtail is cheap to buy, but I like the links mako41 posted to get the tool for removing the pins on existing so they can be moved to new connector. That eliminates me cutting and striping existing wires to connect to new pigtail. That ensures fewer connections to go bad in the future.

You buy the $10 'local' and accomplish the same thing!!! You likely don't need terminals, seals and tools! A WeatherPack release tool is a very easy 'local' buy!! Probably/likely it could be purchased today!!
This link should take you to the 3-terminal WeatherPack tower using poster's #3 suggested vendor...You need to remember that a WeatherPack 'tower' will take either male or female terminals. A purchase of a TPS piigtail would likely assure you that the connector/tower is 'indexed' properly for the TPS.
