Do you have the pan off or just starting the pan gasket? Just did my 93 LT1, recall having to tap the tube up and out from the bottom. There is a nut on the upper part of the tube, close to exhaust manifold. Mine had a small leak so I removed it, cleaned and put some rtv sealer on reinstall.

Do you recall the problem getting the pan gasket (new or old) past the ds tube and one of the crankshaft caps? On mine, there’s literally NO room to maneuver in that particular spot.
Did you have to remove the windage tray in order to tap the ds tube up? If you did, I’ll bet the oil pump pickup was still in the way
Because mine was leaking, I twisted the tube at the top until it was loose then pried it up enough to be able to tap it up from the bottom. At first I thought I might damage it, but it did come out. Wasn’t easy, I think I even looked into a replacement tube just in case I damaged the old one. Try to twist it back and forth maybe a shot of PB Blaster to help break it loose! You only need it to come up a bit to clear the gasket.

I think mine has a rust issue. That cavity where the tube goes into the block is a perfect spot for moisture to accumulate.
I may use my dremel tool with a cut off wheel and shorten it 1/2 inch or so, after masking it off so no contaminates get inside
I looked at cutting the bottom as you said, but mine did finally come out! You need to only cut enough off to get the gasket to clear.
Good luck with your project!
