Bose stereo amp rebuild question.
My current issue is the stereo amps. Found a wonderful article on how to repair. The amps are off the get rebuilt. During my research I found the convertibles and coupes have different amps. Also front to rear are different. During my disassembly of the speaker boxes, I found 3 boxes with a GM # label Convert, and 1 with a GM part# no indication of coupe or convert. After figuring out which capacitors I need and how many, it became apparent I have 1 coupe front speaker amp.
So my dilemma is can I change the coupe amp to a convertible? Just leave and rebuild as Coupe amp or find a Convertible amp?
Interesting mistake on some ones part. either Factory or Dealer. I am leaning towards Factory, The speaker date code is 23 89. My car was built Nov. 89. I have owned it since 93. only had 6,000 miles when I bought it . Never been in any shop for repair.
Another odd issue , is my side support for the convertible top. The one on the side that folds is cast aluminum. Its about 12 inches long. It has major surface corrosion.Looks like snow on the cast. Paint or powder coating is completely peeled off. Only this one piece. Everything else is perfect. What the heck happened there? Want to prevent again. Should I primmer and paint the aluminum or get it powder coated. What did the factory do?
Thanks in advance for any advice
Mike
