I'm following APR's advice when I change my heads. They are aluminum aftermarket. The manufacture of the heads suggested APR bolts and to follow the APR instructions.
I used arp bolts on my Edelbrock heads. The doco that came with the heads said 65 ft pounds in three steps (40,55,65). So that’s what I did. Haven’t blown a head gasket yet.
Edit: Also always use a quality head gasket if you don’t want future problems. For Aluminum heads a Fel-Pro FE1010 is the go.
