Intermittent Headlights on 84
I am chasing some electrical gremlins on my recently restored 84. Ill list them below, but primarily Im looking for info today to fix my intermittent headlights.
Current Problems:
- dash rt turn signal indicator intermittently stays lit when car is on, and also can light up (and stay lit) when turning either running lights or headlights
- right front running light and side marker light are intermittent, or sometimes on but dim
and the problem of the moment:
- Headlight units both open when switched on, but headlight bulbs will flicker and then turn off after several minutes. They will then come back on very briefly and go out again.
Obviously, this needs to get fixed sooner rather than later.
Ive heard there may be a thermal fuse or link, but cant get any reliable info, and also heard there may be a thermal feature built into the headlight switch but have not confirmed this. The headlight switch was replaced during the resto, and is new. If by chance a new switch is in order, any opinions on a higher quality switch would be appreciated, as I dont want to keep disassembling the dash. The 30 yr old plastic dash structure is not happy...
Thanks,
Gary
The turn signal randomly staying on is the ground for the back lights on the cluster. Chances are its the board connector or the bulb itself is loose. Not a terrible fix. Mine fixed itself by hitting a bump the right way lol.
