so, lately my 89' corvette is having this issue where, i could be chugging along gently at 30mph, and the engine just loses revs and shuts off, almost no noise, electronics remain on and indicate 0 rpm. then, seconds later the engine starts back up on its own and continues like normal. My corvette has a little bit of an electric circus happening with the A/C controls, so someone suggested a piggyback chip, others said it could be a vacuum line or timing issue, someone said i dont keep revs high enough (ive never driven my corvette above 50mph, because i want to keep everything intact with it and preserve it) im not sure what the problem is. does anyone have an idea what the problem could be?
If it happens frequently I suggest you tape a fuel pressure gauge onto the windshield and drive around a bit to see if it's losing pressure when it shuts off.
At 30mph what RPM is it turning?
Oh, and what is the voltage reading when it shuts down?
My '87 had a problem where it would cut out when off the throttle, but start fine and keep going with throttle.
Key problem was old spark plug wires, they were cracked and nasty. Replacement resolved the problem.
