Default changing gear ratios

I have an automatic 1993. Doesn't have Dana 44. I'd like to change gear ratios to get the rear end to 3:55 or 3:73 to get better take off and acceleration for auto cross and possibly an occasional drag strip use.

Anyone suggest good vendor for the gears. I know I could swap an entire rear end but hard to find and shipping costs are very high

I put 3:54's in my 93 and it really woke up the car. I went to a speed shop and they ordered and installed the gears. If I remember correctly it cost around $800.

I believe it 'matters' what ratio your D36 is currently!!! What is it?

That definitely seems reasonable. How did you go about researching what shop could do the work?

You don't rely on conversation - you check!!! A 3.07 D36 would have reasonable resale in most instances. If it were a 2.73 that would certainly diminish.

You will need to know what gear you have to order correct parts. SPID label should be on underside of console door. What are the G codes? Standard ratio.is 2.59.and coupe optional G92 is a 3.07.
Convertible G92 is a 2.73, Chevrolet was worried about increased exhaust noise with the 3.07.

I have a 373 in my 93 . I like it RPMs a little high on the road ,how you going to drive it is the question I guess . OK the speed-o is going to go stupid have to change the speed-o gears in the tale shaft of the trans ,with an E-trans can use electronic stuff to change the speed-o not in a non E-trans . The E-trans went in a 94 .. .. Pull you back in the seat and will make you buy new rear tires
