It has resistance but it spins smoothly and has no play. It also has no issues keeping my engine cool in 90+ degree weather. I’d never have suspected it to have an issue. Don’t know what a water pump is supposed to sound like.
Hi
I would first remove the bottom hose, sometimes the spring inside the hose to prevent it collapsing can make its way into the water pump.
If it is not the spring then replace the water pump, do not forget anti seize compound on the bolt threads to prevent them corroding.

would it sound like that though? it sounds for all the world like rubber squeaking. It’s definitely not a metal sound... it’s weird
Well it was bugging me so I messed with it some more. Looks like as soon as I spin it just a little bit faster the noise completely disappears. I’m calling this a non issue for now.
