Need some help on automatic trans shifting!!

I have the same problem, I tried manually shifting and teh car went slower.
I'd rather have consistency so I live with it shifting at 5,500. My problem is that it still has problems shifting, I need to keep the trannt at a certain temp in order for it to shift correctly.
I'm not big on automatic trannys, I hate them actually, so I really don't know a lot about them(I know how they work and stuff, just don't know enough to tweak them out).
There is a cable you can adjust, but eventhere I'm not exactly sure how to adjust it, I always have someone do it for me or check it.
Before I did the high stall torque converter, the car would always shift at 5,000 rpm, but after the new TC and adjusting the cable, it now shifts at 5,500.
It is set to shift at certain rpms at wide open throttle, and at different points at partial throttle regardless where your shifter is.
a good example is that when you start from a dead stop in "drive", your tranny doesnt START in "drive", it works its way through the gears at predetermined shift points.
If you want it to shift at a higher rpm, you would have to leave it in the lower gear until you reach that shift point....not before. (assuming your desired shift point is HIGHER than what is programmed into your tranny)
If you want it to shift SOONER than the programmed points, (as you do), I would say that some sort of internal adjustment, cable adjustment, or shift kit would be necessary
