PROM change
Has anyone actually, physically swapped a PROM in a 1984 ECM before?
I am probably going to be doing it soon and was hoping for insight/tips/cautions/don’t-do-this’es/etc before I start.

I haven't but it's like any other TBI ECM from the late 80's. To prevent any static electricity, hang onto the ECM case at all times while removing and installing the PROM, however I've never smoked one before. Before you begin take note of the notch and it's orientation (use a sharpie if you have to) on the plastic PROM carrier, the PROM inside the carrier will also have a little half moon on the same end. It's actually keyed to go in only 1 way. There's a tool that attaches and you pull it out but I've always just gently pried one side back and forth until it comes lose. Installing, line up and firmly press into place. When ready to start the car, key on engine off and observe check engine light. A rapid blinking will indicate that it's not installed correctly.

Good info. It doesn’t sound complicated, but those are always famous last words.
