i just ordered a new set goodyear tires, first set i have put on since
new,i'm having a local tire shop put them on.
should i be aware of any precaution they should take.
I don't think so the only thing that I can think of is the valve stems, the newer vettes I believe had the type of valve stems that detect low air pressure. I don't know that in '89 they came equipped with that option. But going back to your question most tire places are careful with the rims especilaly with a vette. You may feel better if you are present while they work on it. So long and good driving!
Make sure they spend a lot of time balancing the wheel/tire assembly snce your car is capable of very high speeds (in case you ever see 150 you dont want to have a vibration in the steering wheel).
Also, tell them to put the weights on the inside of the rim so you can't see them. Many times when the tire weights come off they leave ugly marks on your rims.
I have had great handling/ braking / and traction (most of the time...ha ha) with my goodyears. Hope you have the same luck with yours.
