Service Engine soon
1996 Corvette 50k miles, the service engine soon light appeared. Any thoughts? Oxygen sensor needs service or gas cap is loose? I disconnected the battery and it is fine now.

You disconnected the battery to clear it, but the problem will show itself again.
You need a scantool and pull the code before doing anything else. Its OBD2, just about everything at Autozone will read it.

O2 sensor, if it is original, I'd just replace especially if it is the upstream one. Wish you didn't disconnect the battery since we now have no idea what happened to cause the code until it pops up again. You should only clear the code after you attempt a fix assuming you have pulled the codes already so you can see what changed. IDK why people love to erase codes before trying something.
