Is that right? Are you sure it wouldn't be "I've seen similar cars do alot more than that!"
How should I know? This isn't an attack towards you at all, let me make that clear. This was an honest post as it is something I am considering doing. Looks like you have a way defensive conscious going on right now. If you truly didn't care what people were saying, why bother to continue defending it? <shrugs shoulders>

Don't worry, the :bs will stop when the MPH is laid down.
The MPH is the easy part. The ET is the hard part. The 379 rwhp doesn't mean a thing to me. There still hasn't been a 11 second time slip to go with that HP.

I didn't say I didn't care did I? I'm letting this one go. I am being defensive and I believe rightly so. Anyway, I'll help you all I can with your 396. Why don't you begin by telling us what you expect out of this motor? What will you use it for? Is emissions a concern? What kind of idle can you tolerate? Are you prepared to start buring your own chips? I'll offer you as much support as I can.

See Im just the opposite. Id rather have a 12.30 car that turns 120 mph that an 11.90 car that runs 114...but thats just me. Cause if you line the two up on the highway, that 11 sec car is gonna get smoked. :yesnod:

If I recall seeing Jason's chassis dyno charts correctly, he has ~ 400 lbs/ft at right about 2,000 rpm and continues to make HP to 6,000+. That's a pretty fat power curve that's very driveable. I'm not a 1/4 miler, but do roadcourse events. It's rarely about max horsepower, most often about a BROAD torque curve, that when it starts dropping off, the HP keeps on going. Peaky cams do nothing for me. Perfect (I think) for a narrow power band, drag racing and max HP. I guess like cars and woman, to each his own.

:lurk:

just keeping a eye on things...

I would like to do a stroker on my LT1... and that is my plan, but I don't want a high strung POS that is hard to drive. I just want a 383 or 396 version of my 350. A bit bigger, a bit more of everything.

effertless power, power the way only cubic inches can produce it.

My brother in FL had a 427/435hp L71 BB in his 1967 coupe. It was way  , but, like anything that brutal, it was undrivable on a regular basis. it sucked gas, it smelled, it was HOT, tempermental and rode like crap.

but I would never trade that experience for any amount of $$!!! :D

If nothing else, it told me what I DIDN'T want my car to be... but at the same time, I knew what I wanted my car to to be like. Fast, but usable.

That is, to me, the most admirable goal. And sometimes the most difficult!
