Re: 95 vette overheating ... just got it ...please help (YoungVetteOwner)
If the fans worked, then didn't, when it went to 240 (f) ......it is possible there is a open or ground in the wiring since you were disturbing the wires. You need to put the PCM into the "diagnosic mode" which will turn on everyting but the fuel pump. Your fans and relays will be energized and should run. You then can see if the fans respond or not. At that point you can check the wiring for the fans, relays etc. and maybe duplicate the problem if there is a break.
A dvm= digital volt meter.
CTS= coolant temp. sensor located on the front of the water pump.
If you research the files you will see how to put the car into the diagonistic mode.
I can't help you with the new radiator question, but @ 190,000 miles, it has paid it's rent. :jester
Re: 95 vette overheating ... just got it ...please help (YoungVetteOwner)
Which wires did you mess with? If it was the wires to the front of the water pump area, that's where your CTS is. It's very possible corrosion has built up and changed the resistance readings that the ECM reads. A pencil eraser is a great remedy if not simply replacing the sensor and/or the connector.
I took a quick glance at my radiator and there are no holes anywhere around that hose. You may be seeing a failure take place. It wouldn't hurt to replace that radiator. http://www.tld-corvette.com has good prices and lots of parts in stock. It looks like you are narrowing down the problem! :yesnod:
[EDIT]: Also remember that the coolant system is a closed system and relies on pressure to raise the boiling point of the coolant. If there is an open in the system, it will boil at 212* (ok, maybe 214 because of the mixture), hence the boil-over. This will occur long before the fans even consider turning on.
Re: 95 vette overheating ... just got it ...please help (YoungVetteOwner)
I looked and couldn't find the procedure so If it is the same for your 94 as my 92, the procedure is: locate the ALDL (under the dash left side next to the center console). key off; take a paper clip and straighten it out; jump the A&B connections (they are the 2 bays on the ALDL 1st row left side next to each other). Key on; and the fans along with all the relays will fire up. the message center will flash out the code 12 --3 times. If there are any stored codes it will follow code 12. you might check with someone else before you do this as I'm not to sure in what year the OBDII system came into play. My 92 is a OBDI. The above procedure is for the OBDI. Maybe someone will jump in here.

You shud have a 16 pin DLC, from left to right top row, 1 thru 8.
Left to right, bottom row, 9 thru 16. Ground pins #4 to #12 to enter the diagnostic mode.......................
Re: 95 vette overheating ... just got it ...please help (lou sylvestri)
hey lou i think my main problem might be that i dont know exactly which one is the relay i need to check because i found three of them together on the right side of the intake filter but none of them had 2 rows of 8 pins if i remember correctly it was only 6 pins all together on all 3 of them, this was very confusing because thats what the haynes manual said it should be like also(2 rows of 8 pins) but i couldnt find anything like that. maybe thats how it was on the models prior to the 95. if im wrong please let me know maybe im not lookin in the right places.

YVL,
Were referring to the Data Line Connector that is located on the right side of the steering column above where your ankle would be. It might be a little hard to find. It could possibly have a cover over it. Its about 2 inches long & a 1/2 inch thick.. Get down there with a flashlight & you shud be able to find it. When you find it get your self a paperclip & insert each end into the pins indicated earlier, then turn on the key & watch the speedo for codes. I believe you have enough info to take over from there. Check your mail.
