I had my 90 ZR-1 on jack stands. When checking movement of the rear wheels, I discover the left axle shaft will move in and out of the differential housing 1/4" or so. Also around the seal is oil leaking. The mileage is around 29k, so I doubt it is worn yoke. Do you have any experience with that?
The axle shafts are held in place by a c-clip (actually a better description provided by WVZR-1 is a thickness specific clip/ring) that sets the end play. The FSM says .004 to .0045 (0.1145 mm - 0.1015 mm) in one spot. in another area I found
The correct end play is 0.013 mm (0.0005 in.)
minimum to 0*216 mm (0.0085 in,) maximum.
Snap rings come in seven sizes and colors for
Models 36 Model 36 axle and eight sizes and
colors for Model 44 axle.
your ZR-1 will have a Dana 44 differential. The ONLY place I know of to get c-clips (unless someone has some) is here
