I just bought my first vette yesterday and the stereo just goes "click click click"from inside the stereo when i turn it on.It will accept the cd or tape and eject them but no sound(sometimes a loud spurratic sistortion sound from the back speaker). Its probably a loose wire, i checked the fuse and its good.Any one have a similar problem?Any answers appreciated
Thanks Rick
Re: Bose stereo/tape/cd not working??? (1STVETTE90)
Recently bought my Vette and I have the same problem. I am not to worried because I am going to dump the stock stereo anyway. Just looking for an aftermarket stereo that uses amber lights.
Its got blown amps. The cost of fixing it is about the same as getting a new setup and new is much better quality wise. Check out Nakamichi decks. Very low key and amber.
Re: Bose stereo/tape/cd not working??? (1STVETTE90)
Just got my speakers back from Bose. New amps and speaker cones. $74 each. Did all 4. Bose Automotive Division 1-800-231-2673 and speak with Marilyn. Tell her problem. You may have to call several times before you get her. Had all 4 back in less then 1 week.
You will most likely have to send it in for repair. The cd/tape player is just that. The radio is actually in the well area behind the passenger seat. The CD has a hard time playing any CD-R's. I don't think my unit ever played one. I also bought a new cd, opened it up stuck it in and naddah. Was sporatic at best in what it wanted to play. I took it out and using one of the Bose adapters, I installed my Sony MD deck.
Re: Bose stereo/tape/cd not working??? (1STVETTE90)
The best thing I've ever done for audio reliability and sound quality is to ditch the bose crap. For a while I used a bose adapter and just used a new head unit but when one of my spekaers bit the dust I decided it was time to replace them all.
I put some MB Quart 3.5's up front and my Pioneer 6x9's in the back. I already had these speakers so it was the most cost effective solution. I made some custom adapters to put them in the stock locations and you'd never know it they weren't OEM, oh well except for the sound which is 10x better.
All the speakers are running from the deck alone and sound very good, volume can be anything I want with 0 distortion, etc. For a little bit more bass I installed a small MTX amp with a single 10 inch MTX sub in a custom box. Sounds great and my total out of pocket expense was $200 because I already had everything but the amp and sub. That includes the additional 5 year warranty on the amp.
