Default Sensor under oil dipstick

Hello all, I am new the the Corvette world. I picked up a 85 c4 a few weeks back. Getting around to tuning it up. Did plugs and wires and ended up braking a sensor underneath the oil dipstick. Can anyone tell me what sensor this is and what it does?

Looks like the water temperature sending unit for the dash gauge.

Knock sensor. You should flush the coolant system now since you have drain it to replace the sensor. Older cars that have not had the sensors removed and cooling system flushed can usually benefit from this preventative maintenance.

Will this cause really rough idle issues? It broke when changing plugs. Car ran fine for a few days and is now idle surging and stalling

Knock sensor is down below right above the pan rail. Ask me how I know...PO had KS and water temp wires crossed which made it throw a code. Engine ran fine except above a certain rpm where a bunch of timing was being pulled showed up as being knock retard and felt like down on power. Do you still have a functioning water temp gauge?

Water temp gauge still working. The thing that gets me is the car drove fine for a few days without the sensor.

lol I gotta go revisit now. I coulda swore when I switched the wires to the correct positions, went from a pegged temp gauge to a functional one. Maybe the locations for water temp vary from year to year.
