Default Roller rockers

What do people with 88-91 vettes do about roller rockers and tall valve covers? I pulled the ac on mine because of clearance issues with the ac compressor. I suppose I could cut and weld the valve cover (well pay someone to do it), but alternative solution, could one run 85-87 ac setup since it's mounted in front of the head as opposed to on the side? Anyone out there done this?

what i did on my 89 was to relieve (grind) the a/c compressor bracket to allow the valve cover to come up and away from the a/c. if you look at the valve cover from the top and pull up on it, you can see where the bracket needs to be ground. use a marker to make a profile of what material needs to be removed then it becomes grind and fit, grind and fit.

I notched the bracket and have clearance for that but the actual compressor itself is what the clearance issue is for me. Can you send me a picture or two of your setup?

I ran roller rockers under 'Vette valve covers by simply breaking the oil drip tabs off the insides of the valve covers. Worked fine, for me.

I'll look into that!! Thanks for the tip. I'm definitely going to feel like a bozo for pulling the ac if I could have just modified the stock covers! Live and learn.

i was running roller rockers and a girdle. wasn't going to fit under stock covers and had to go to a tall cover which is what i did for the clearance and r&r of the covers.

I would never go back to the early r4 compressor, the Denso is much smother and quieter. For tall valve covers I had to grind just a little on the bracket where it was hitting the corner of the valve cover and used 3/8" spacers to move the compressor out away from the cover. I did use longer bolts, I didn't have the original bolts so I don't know if they would have worked.

I have full stainless roller rockers under the stock valve covers on my 1985. I just used a Dremel to cut off the drip tabs and then ground them flat.

I ran roller rockers under 'Vette valve covers by simply breaking the oil drip tabs off the insides of the valve covers.
When I put ProMagnum 1.6:1s into my prior '88 I did the same cover treatment to get ample clearance with OEM covers, no problems.

Thanks for the input everyone! I'm going to track down a set of the early valve covers. The heads I swapped on are perimeter bolt only.

Sleazy Rider...I bought an AC bracket from you last year..
for my 89 that was relieved, might be the one you are thinking of.
