Default Head Gasket and?

Hi everyone, this is my first post. I'll do my best to be as detailed as possible.
A few weeks ago I picked up a '95 LT1 with ~153K that had been sitting for approximately a year. Previous owner replaced the fuel pump and the brake master cylinder. I changed all the fluids and noticed that the coolant had oil in it. Upon further inspection it's clear that the head gasket failed. I'm aware this is something I should have noticed beforehand, but hindsight is 20/20 right?
I'm planning to buy the full head gasket set and new head bolts from ecklers.

Is there anything else I should replace while I'm in there?

Maybe someone whos experienced it, Ive never heard of oil going into the coolant but coolant going into the oil due to a head gasket. Perhaps it may be the internal trans cooler leaking???

Describe what diagnostics you have done that support the above statement. As was noted, how do you know it is the head gasket? Does it run? Hydrolocked? Smoke coming from the tailpipe? Does it run? Any noises?
