I don't object to your conclusion of power restriction AT ALL, but I question your observation that exhaust meets itself "head on". I don't see that happening but it's probably difficult to understand the pathway looking at the casting. If someone wants (as is still curious after my prior explanation), I can attempt to use PAINT to superimpose arrows -- indicating the flow.
I've toyed with the idea of using cutouts to install a "trap door" at the send 90-deg turn...then connecting that to the outlets. OTOH, cutouts aren't cheap. If I could find a way to weld a 1x3 connector to a flattened/ovalled 3" pipe, that might make more sense. That way, the original castings would remain resellable -- if I liked the result. Of course, it would be LOUDER...and might require a mid-section muffer (again).
BTW, that's my only thought on how to make it "tunable"....to make an electronic dump directly into the outlets BEFORE the turn up to the mufflers.
