Default Removing a one piece balancer

Anyone here take a one piece balancer off with the engine in the car?

The blower kit uses a one piece balancer.

I chasing down a leak at the front of my engine and I'll be pulling the front cover to replace all the seals.

Can it be done w/o removing the steering rack?

Thanks

It can be done. I've pulled mine twice now but the trick is finding a puller with a small enough head on the bolt that fits through the loop in the steering rack. Tedious for sure. My balancer is stock and clears the cross member. Not sure about yours. I also made an install tool because I could not find one to buy locally and at the time I did not want to wait days for one to arrive in the mail. Here is a pic of my install tool. I found the instructions here on the forum but have lost the link.

Yeah, I'd had the stock two piece off

Trick was not letting the PS cooler slice me.

Get a 16 mm bolt x 125 mm (or 5") long from the fastener store.
Use it with the normal balancer removal unit and it should be the correct length that the balancer comes off with room to spare.

I borrow'ed a puller from O'reilly auto parts that I think is large enough.

Need to disconnect the supercharger and it's brackets so I could get to one of the waterpump bolts.

Not that the one behind the PS pump pulley is ever easier to get to
Especially with a vacuum vent line to the Opti in the way.

I feel your pain. Ended up just using a long socket on a universal joint pushed through the power steering pulley hole to get that one out. I look forward to putting it back in.

Is the PS pulley removable?

I'm not sure, but I didn't bother. It has an odd cap on the center of it I didn't want to mess with. Fortunately the holes in the pulley were large enough to get the socket and extension through. Almost as if GM designed it that way...

LOL

I'll definitely try it that way when I go to put it back on
