Default Replacing my steering wheel

Hello. On my 1985 c4 I want to change out my steering wheel and I have a telescoping one. Will a non telescoping wheel fit or are they the same? Thank you in advance for your help

I think you are talking about the steering column, not the wheel. The steering wheel mounts to the column which is what moves in and out.

I actually didn't know you could get an 85 without a telescoping column/wheel. If so, their is only one part number for the wheel itself so it should bolt up to a non-telescoping one if you find one. If you are changing your wheel, I strongly suggest the 86+ wheel (and horn button). It's a little bit thicker and feels so much better.

If you're looking to abandon the telescoping feature all you need to do is find a Allen head set screw with correct thread set wheel to a comfortable position lock down and install your new aftermarket wheel, if they are at all reputable they should provide a direct fit wheel or adapter that wheel mounts to.

The wheel itself will mount up just fine, its not hard to do it. The adjustment is in the column.

Try not to let the spring for the horn fly out and get lost in a seat crack, and make sure the wheel is exactly centered when you put the new one in.

Hello and thank you all for responding. and yes it is the steering wheel that I want to peplace.. From what I have read the 84-89 steering wheels are the same. I am looking for some used oem wheels for sale that I what to buy as a replacement for mine. The one pictured is from an 89 and looks the same but it does mot have a cutout for my telescoping lever.

Thank you for that suggestion. I guess I should have explained it better. I want to replace my oem stock worn lelescoping steering wheel with an original oem replacement and I'm guessing by now I will probably have to get an original oem wheel that came with telescoping option. No column replacement, no telescoping delete, no aftermarket stuff so I can keep it all original and I know how to change it out.Thank you everybody for your advise.

WOW. That kinda makes sense if thats true as airbag and telescoping don't like each other. Can anybody confirm this?

I never never had a C4 non airbag 84-89 that didn't have both.My 85, 89 and now 87 all have both. I have not done research so I don't know for sure if some don't have both options.

I sure don't think I have telescoping in my 96. If it turns out I do I will feel very stupid. Dan

My 84 z51 has a telescoping and tilting steering wheel/column. I am actually changing out the stock wheel with an NRG Quick Release Steering wheel. I’m hoping it’ll be a Christmas gift from the lady. If it is, I’d be happy to give you my OEM setup.

Might make it easier to get in and out of, especially with those door bars.

Tilt - telescoping column was standard on 84-89 Corvettes. Not an option.

Where did you find the wheel that has that cover?

Just to follow up, I don’t think you are seeing it from the proper angle. You are looking basically straight on to the recessed area, and the cut out section for the level comes from the steering wheel side which is obscured.
