Happy Holidays everyone. Sooo... I inherited my Fathers 95 two years ago, it has a whopping 48,000 miles. Took it out of the garage for a spin and noticed (before even getting in) the radio face had a (wrong) time on it. Hmmmm.... me says. Ignition isn’t on, why a time display in the radio? I start the car, nothing changes. I turn on the radio... antenna stays down and nothing changes on the radio. OKaaaaaaaay. So, I check the fuse, both the antenna power and the rad-bat, they are fine. So then I get a bright idea to leave both out for a few minutes and let the radio “reboot.” Nope... still a locked and wrong time on the screen at all times, doesn’t power up and randomly pressing buttons causes one (and only one) lights up when I press. That’s all there is..... My only plan now is maybe to leave both fuses out all night(?) Let the radio reset... ? Again? It’s the standard radio, not the nose upgrade. Does it need replacement?
Check to see if your 95 has the 2 piece radio unit. the head unit in the dash has an amp which is located in a compartment behind the passenger seat. That might be your problem.

thanks for the responses, I am inclined to think it is the control unit, not the amp. Everything actually worked perfect today... for about ten minutes. The antenna raised when the radio was powered on, the screen showed the station, all the buttons worked, then it went back to exactly like yesterday; screen frozen and turning the radio on had no effect (antenna stayed lowered). My tentative plan is to replace the dash control unit, more on that in a minute but if anyone else has other ideas please throw them at me. I have done a little on line shopping, control units are available for a 95, but I was hoping to buy a completely refurbished one from a reputable source, simply installing one taken out of another car (with no QC) might end up with me having the same issue when that unit fails. I know there are lots of excellent after market radios available, but my father made me promise to keep his baby exactly like he did, which is 100% stock. Can anyone recommend a quality shop that would sell me a truly re-worked radio? That has been tested and worn components replaced? Many thanks
Take the CDM ( rectangle silver box under the plastic tray in the compartment behind the passenger seat out ( and unplug it -5 minute job) next...google Dr. Dons corvette radio, fill out form and send it to him. Another resource is United Radio in New York. It is about as simple as any fix on a Corvette. Also, if you are going to keep your car, get AND READ a factory service manual, and use the search function on this site. Good Luck, Difficulty level 1 ( out of ten).If this car sits outside (cringe) make sure the car doesn't leak water anywhere and the rear compartment is BONE DRY. If not fix water leaks immediately. Without Bose, your radio is very simple and should work for the life of the car with little maintenance. You can also take out the front head unit and send it in for refresh and either place can upgrade the laser to play CD-R's if you like and / or install a factory MP3 input.

Doing this today, thank you! It’s a garaged and pampered car, hopefully Doctor Don will be the resolution.
Just spoke with Doctor Don, he knew exactly the issue, described it to a T. Quoted a very reasonable repair price and I am sending it in to him today. Of course I will wait to see the results of the work, but I feel very good after speaking with him, man knows his trade! Feeling a lot better that she will be good as new. Thanks for the help on this thread and I will recommend Doctor Don for at least a preliminary contact, he was polite, knowledgeable, very helpful and I am confident everything will be fine. Will post when she is up and running!!!!
Just had mine rebuilt by dr don. If you have a test bench you can pull the radio apart yourself and check connections and replace transistors and bulbs but why not save a heap of time and just have someone who knows what they're doing fix it? He did an amazing job and the radio in my c4 works like a champ.

Agree completely, and thank you. If I opened it, the end result would be far worse then whatever is wrong with it now. Just speaking with Dr Don gave me a lot of confidence, I feel sure it will come back good as new!
