Changing DN4+3 into "normal" 4 speed?
Just curious if anyone has done this. I've got a Richmond 6 speed in the car at the moment, but it's more gearing than I need with my track engine, and I'd like to go back to a four speed (smaller and lighter). The OD in the DN setup seized up years ago, and the "front" box has been sitting on a shelf for a buncha years.
At first glance, I see a few things in the front box that need changing to do this, but I'm sure there are several details that I'm not aware of.
Iirc I think if you use a regular super t10 tail housing and fab a C-beam bracket it'll work. When I replaced my overdrive internally the front seemed no different than the super t10 on the floor jn the garage.... probably have some driveshaft work too but it is just a T10 front...
I'm pretty sure there was just a second adapter plate bolted to the rear of the T10 to adapt the DNE bolt pattern.
Edit: if you're up for selling the 6 speed I may be interested lol
..... The output shaft is different and would need to be changed ... they weren't very plentiful , but the Super T10 used in 3rd Gen F-bodies has the same ratio spread as the 4+3 front box and would at least provide all the reverse gear pieces and parts that would also be needed to convert the Doug Nash box to a straight 4 speed .....

I'll keep you in mind if this project is successful.
Previously, I pulled enough weight out of my '69 that I didn't need the extra gearing of the DN4+1 I had in it, so I pulled it out and put the original lighter Muncie back in. I've got a turbo 355 in my '84, and with the boost the extra gears of the six speed aren't as necessary as they used to be.
