Bad bad Saturday:( Put my L383 SC (8 psi) on the dyno and couldn't pull over 380 rwhp out of her the 1st run. All was okay from a/f and spark. No spart knock to speak of and timing was good. Just couldn't get the hp. We let it heat soak for a few and ran it again. That's when all h$$l broke loose. Took her up to 3000 rpm, waited a few and boom @#$%$. Engine is coming out as we speak for investigation. We think maybe a TRW forged piston or two on the right bank went bye..bye...no parts blew out. Were able to shut the engine down pretty quick:) My hope is that is was a defective part and not the craftsmanship going into the engine.
So anywho...I hope your day was better than mine:(
There's light at the end of the tunnel:) The engine shop pulled the heads off my 383 in front of me and to my surprise 6 of the 8 pistons went bad. I need to clear up TRW's good name. The pistons were in fact Ohio Piston Corp not TRW. It make my heart feel good knowing that TRW has never failed me:) Now as to the engine, my heads were chewed up from the metal particles breaking away from the piston and the piston compressing against the head so I don't hold much faith in keeping my heads. The engine shop is making everything good and I've been promised to pick it up this Friday:) What an AWESOME SHOP!
My new and improved 383 is being installed as I type this. What a hassle this whole thing has been. I would love to meet the owner of Ohio Piston Company and give them the bill for this whole problem. Junk! My engine builder is at fault here too because I asked for forged pistons and didn't get it. What ever happened to a honest day's pay for a honest day's work? I watched this engine go together to ensure I was getting ross forged pistons, high quality rods, and crank. Todays a new dawn and everything is looking great once again! Car should be ready for the dyno by Friday:) One word of caution, don't put blind faith into your engine builder like me unless you have an established relationship!
:nonod: ... You didnt just say that did you :nonod:
Im sorry Trey, but you sit at a desk in customer service, your 18, your not a TRW engineer, not even sorta, kinda, barely
No i did something once!! I put in a work request and then went to hill hold test. that got boring so i took a few laps around the proving grounds :steering:
then i put pallet on the back of a truck with no gate-
yea i lost some stuff
Yea,
this is the C4 section and Lt1 Z28's and vettes have many things in common.
This is also a web site for corvette ENTHUISTS(sP?), not only corvette owners.
PS-
since when has there been a guest list, and who made you head of security? :nopity
We'll put 50 miles or so on the engine today, pull the oil filter. cut it open, and take a look inside it to she how the new 383 in doing. The dyno is open today (my friend owns it) so we'll take a few easy runs and see how the a/f and timing look. Not to worry, I'll have tunercat booted up and the chip burner standing by for usage
