OK made a big mistake on my 94 coupe, removed the balancer completely from the crankshaft and since this year vette does not use the keyway to line up I cannot figure out at what position it is to go back on. There are no markings left behind to go by. Is there a way to figure this out cause I'm at a loss, Was told there is a way but not told how. Thank you all in advance for your help. :chevy :seeya
ive done this a few tiems lately. This is what I THINK... i noticed there are no markings either but, i noticed a few things before taking it off. On the hub there is a casting line. I believe that is a marking for the balancer. On the balancer there shud be a arrow, a small triangle or a mark between two of the bolt holes. I cant remember if its on the front or the back side. this mark/arrow was lined up with the casting line on the hub. i installed it the same way and had no problems. Not sure if this helps but take a closer look. :)
OK I understand what you are telling me and I did notice that and also put this part on correct, but my problem is that I also pulled the hub off of the crankshaft to pull the timing cover to replace my seal and on the 94 the keyway is cut in the crankshaft though it is not cut in the balancer hub. So my problem is that my balancer hub has no specific way to lock into place on the crank and is now in the wrong position, need help to figure out how to position it on the crankshaft. I am currently getting a bad vibration in my engine from this not being in the right position. ANYONE WHO CAN HELP PLEASE DO SO. Thank you in advance :seeya
If you can get it close the arrow on the outer hub when pointing straight up is TDC So put it a TDC and you have only 3 differnet ways it could go. Hope that makes ense still waking up :)
The arrow or small triangle goes at 12:00 position when the engine is at TDC. pull the #1 one plug and turn engine until piston comes to the top as felt with a small screwdriver in the plug hole.
This does make sense to me and is greatly appreciated, been doing my own work on cars for years so I do know a little but until now never owned a vette so I was not aware these did not use the little keyway to lock the hub into place, Hey learn something new every day, I know I did. Thanks again for all your help. :chevy :seeya
