What you're looking at is the drivers side of the motor on my 84. The PO installed an aftermarket analog temp gauge because of dash problems, at least that is what I presume. I was able to bring the tach back to life and now need to trace down the wires to the water temp.
The braided wire you see is screwed into the block and connected at the other end of the analog gauge, and it does work. The original set up is from the water temp sensor to a blue wire, a connector, and switches to a green and striped wire, then to the dash according to the wiring diagram. Is the wire to the left with the blue wiring and connector what I am looking for?
As for the green wire at the dash, I will still have to find it and there are more than one candidate.
Yes. You would have to wrench out the analog temp sensor from the head and buy a new original temp sensor and plug the flat female plug into it and see if your dash gauge shows temperature and if so your good to go and if not go from there and let us know.
That wire and plug underneath... just ground it out for a test. Dash reading should max out. Check it before you go and buy the sensor. Continuity too. But yes. That blue looking wire is the one
I'll install all this tonight or in the morning and see if the wiring is still intact. I really appreciate the help here. The oil pressure sending unit has been "modified" as well, but that is for another day.
