Mileage Contest
1987 Z51 4+3 - 170,000 on chassis
engine 1 lived for ~58k until it broke a timing chain
engine 2 lived until 115k when it was rebuilt for auto-x'ing
engine 3 still going strong making more TQ at the wheels than it should make at the flywheel (stock spec blueprinted engine....GOOD rebuild :-)
Main 4-speed box number 2, rebuilt once already
Overdrive #8 (and not working...here comes the ZF)
2nd clutch hose (first caught fire this summer)
2nd floorpan under pedalbox (Vette + black lab + 75mph = bad things)
God only knows how many sets of wheel bearings, ball joints, brakes (oh my dear LORD! don't get me started on brakes)
Still running the original diff, but not for much longer (bearings going out, and the Torsen is FINALLY giving up after 14 years of autocrossing!)
By the way, whoever it was who said that racing a car increases the wear on the mechanical parts....take a look at my list....um, you might have something there.
Good thing I know how to turn a wrench!
P.S. - this is still better than my old Mustang!!!

It spits a small white puff of smoke at startup (valve seals) but burns less than a half quart of oil every 3k miles. And actually I tried that "for older cars" oil and it really did help the valve seal issue to the point that I felt OK with putting the engine rebuild off untill next year ( so I can finally get it painted this winter )
