Default Flow numbers.... Dynomax vs Flowmaster

The guy at the muffler shop told me the Dynomax WAY outflows the Flowmaster.... (Mufflers)

Is this true? Any sources?

I didn't see anything on their sites.

there's almost no difference between the two, if you did a back to back test of both on your car i'd be suprised to see a 2rwhp difference. buy which one you like the most sound wise.

GTS Yellow is right. Performance wise, they are probably close. You also need to look at other things...looks, sound, type of construction and see which one you like best.

Interesting. I will search for some sound clips.

GTS Yellow... thanks abunch for your help with my heads... I am picking up the valves/srpings/retainers from GM on Thursday and the Shop is going to install them....

Hopefully this weekend we will have the fire-up. :)

Let me guess, the guy was a Dynomax dealer?

your welcome sir, my guess is the guy read a dynomax box, they have cfm flow of all these mufflers & flowmaster is one of them. they basically stack the graphs so there's looks the best.

Magnaflows claim to have the highest flow rate of all mufflers. I can't imagine there being any significant difference in flow rates between any of the high end exhaust systems. It boils down to what looks good to you and if you like the sound that they produce. I bought the Magnaflows strictly for their look, quality and workmanship. I lucked out that they sound incredible to boot. See my signature for pic. Just my $.02.

Well, you list an LT4 cam, is that an LT4 Hot Cam by chance? If so here is a sound clip you should find interesting.

This is my car with the LT4 Hot Cam, Hooker Long Tubes, X-pipe, and Flowmaster 40 series mufflers. I'll point out that I had a few small exhaust leaks at the time which are now fixed. That eliminates all of the crackle that you hear when I let off. Also my recording media just doesn't do justice to the bass note.

CG77Vette has a nice setup :smash: His Magnaflows look good :yesnod: The sound of Magnaflows are nice. The Flowmasters I had in a 97 Tahoe had toomuch interior resonance. The Dynomax in my 92 sound good and have a deep tone. The Magnaflows on my Tahoe had a mellow tone yet were throaty when I opened it up. Next week I'm reverting from stock exhaust to Magnaflows again. Guess I got tired of hearing myself think while driving it

I posted a long list of dyno results for 15 mufflers, about a month ago. Everything from magnaflow to flowmaster to dynomax. There wasn't 2 hp difference between the whole lot, but considerable difference in sound level. Don't ever buy mufflers for power gains, only sound preference.

Thank you everyone for you help! Nathan those sound GREAT!!!! The place I went was a hole in the wall, they sold everything not just Dynomax. Maybe he just had a hard on for it. I have heard flowmasters... they are loud... but I have NO mufflers... so anything will be a lot more quiet!   I really like the look of those Magnaflows... Hmmm..... decisions... decisions.

Thanks again! :seeya

Red84-

I put dynomax superturbos on mine about a month ago, and I love them. Not deafening like flowmasters, but they sound really good. I think you're in Houston, right? Me too. If so, I'll be glad to get together with you and let you listen to it. Let me know.

That's what I got my quote for! The SuperTurbos! :)

I would love to hear them. On Saturday we are going to be in the garage all day putting everything together... where are you located?

Shoot me an email if you want to get togher... I know we were going to meet at HRP a while back... but that all fell through, so this would be a good time.
