Spark Plug Question
So it’s my understanding that 85-86 used cast iron heads that take tapered seat plugs, and 86-91 use aluminum heads that take reach threads with a gasket.
Ok, so I have an 88, and the plugs I removed are the ones with a gasket.
The 88 service manual shows using tapered seat plugs.
There should be a number cast into the head. You can use this number to find out what engines it fits and the years.
Someone may have changed heads on it at some point in time.
It is not uncommon to find illustrations that are "typical" but not necessarily 100% accurate to the year of discussion. I agree that a reference to "taper seat spark plug" in a 1988 FSM is confusing.
Aluminum heads use the 3/4 reach 14mm gasketed shell. Not a taper seat.
Yeah, my 84 FSM uses some drawings of engine parts that resemble C3 components... v belts included. I feel it is a safe assumption that some things in the service manual are carried over drawing wise. The written text however should be accurate.
