Since I’ve owned my car, the dash lights do not work. I went to Batee months ago and replaced the dash lights myself hoping something would work. Yesterday out of the blue, they started working and have been on for 2 days and now are no longer there. Where is the ground that affects the dash? It’s extremely frustrating and I’m out of options on what the problem is. I’m not technically savvy enough to understand so please dumb down the terminology for me. Thanks!
When the dash is dark, do you have slight glow from turn indicators and high beam indicator? It is quite common with a bad internal gound connection between the two circuit boards and then the ground current finds another way thru those indicator lights.

it doesn’t glow when not in use. Before I replaced the dash lights, the screen would glitch and disappear at times but since I’ve replaced them, that problem has gone away. The turn signals light up when I use them and I think the high beams do as well. Only problem is the dash lighting up. Sorry I’m not electronic savvy. Where can I find the ground for the dash on an 84? Is it under the foot well on the drivers side? I’m debating if it is easier to send the car to someone who knows all about wiring and electronics instead of doing it myself because I’m very lost
Did you happen to check the condition of the board connector. The through pin one? My dash would randomly work then not and it was the actual board connector that connected the layers internally. Usually a good smack underneath by the steering column would produce light for a bit... if you hit the face with a bright light and can make out the segments still working I'd lean toward that being the issue.
The ground is near the door hinge on the side, but is is a comman ground for almost everithing. You shoudl have more issues than the instrument cluster if that was the problem.
I would also suspect a bad pin on the board to board connector.
