Default ECM problem?!

O.K! Here we go.....I have more gremlins attacking my car, Today when I was on my way to my dads place, after starting the car, the engine service light came on! the car was running hideuos! the speed ometer was reading 0 mph, even though I was moving, the mpgallon indicater went out completely! Iarrived at my dads, turned the car off, placed the wires in the thingy to pull the codes! No codes to be pulled?! a probebly none related thing, my vacuum purge celinoid, was full of charcoal pices, the size of sand grains! after investagating around, I started the car, and it seemed fine! Now in past few weeks if been haveing a bad time trying to figure what the hecks up with this car! some times when I start it up, it starts and dies right away, this happens a few times in a row, then it'll be fine, some times when I start it, it wont have a problem at all!, at others I'll start it up, and it seems to stuggle a little to keep idleing, just few a second, then it'll pick up and be fine! some times when it does that strugle to idle thing, when the fans come on, the idle will suddenly raise to normal! I've changed every thing about, the tps, IAC, fuel filter, plugs, wires, rotor, ignition module, and this thing I cant think of the name which sets beside the plenum, and has 1 hose running from it, and a small eletrical harness that goes to it? this is on the passenger side. I have a fuel pump ready to go in, but some how I have a funny feeling that its electrical, not fuel. Help some one please, I cant take to much more of these fustrations!!! :mad

I've read your other post too.....It's an intermittant-that's one of the most difficult to figure out....
You need to get a fuel press gauge and test as advised in your other thread.
Then you need to get ahold of a scan tool.....then let us know the results-however if you did jumper a and b correctly and no codes were saved after the check engine light was on, then it does appear to be the ecm....or some loose/shorted wiring.

OK Brah,
That "thing" on your intake on the pass. side is the canister purge soleniod. If you have pettets at the solenoid, then the canister has ruptured. Replace the canister and (while disconnected) blow compressed air through the line betwwen the canister an soleniod to clean it out. I think you said you replaced the soleniod. If not, get a new one. Aslo check the line from the soleniod to the Throttle body. They will break down and a hole will delvelop ( vacuum leak) at the bend on the bottom side nearest the intake.
I agree with the post on the fuel pressure or ecm. You might have a pump on the way out or the FPR. You need to trouble shoot the fuel system first tho. Mahalo nui

Howzit!! you from the islands? The the canister purge I know what that is, but theres something else toword the back part of the plenum that I was refering to, that I had also changed, but anyway, I'll change the canister out in a few days, I dont think that it will be that expensive....I hope not anyway! Last night I went ahead and put the fuel pump on, man was that the easiest fuel pump change that I have ever done!! I did it when I went to my wifes kickboxing class, droped her off at the door, went around and parked, took my tools out and did it in the dark, with my little pen light in my mouth!! I was pau (finished) in time to teach my wifes class after they did they're warm up's!! the car felt a lot more spunky, I did'nt have to let into the gas as much as I did before to go the speed limit on the free way. As far as the problem being gone? dont know, I'll keep all of you posted to let you know! Mahalo Nui Loa (Thank You Very Much)

Hawaiian Punch...don't hook the canister purge vac. line to the purge soleniod until you replace the canister or you will just suck up more pellets. If your still having problems, put a fuel pressure guage on the schrader valve and check out the fuel pressure regulator before you replace the ecm. BTW, you replaced that fuel pump wiki-wiki....
Yea, I have ohana in upcountry Makawao on Maui. Also I spend a couple weeks every year at Kahana above Lahania Town. There is no"hang loose" on the icons here on the forum so this is as close as it comes.

Unfortunately that stupid canister is about $80 from the dealer. I tried to get one from Autozone but they said the infamous phrase "It's a dealer part."

You should check with Jeff Kopp at Superior Chevrolet.

Hope you get it fixed up!

O.K gang, gang!! Heres the low down score.....Car 7 me 1!! I have'nt had no trouble anymore, but I'm not sure if it's gone or waiting to do a sneak attack on me! I went ahead and changed the fuel pump, like I had mentioned earlier, I blocked off the canister purge for now, clened the contacts on the ignition switch, I noticed also that under my arm rest, something was shorting out under there, so I got all the change, and other metel trash out from under there, and so far so good!? I update in a few days!! Mahalo Nui Loa (thank you very much) to all with your suport and help with this situation!!
