Let's also hear all about what you guys have done for performance on top of that nice 383 you have!
I'm curious to see how many people we've got up here have taken that step and whether you were pleased or not with the outcome. Let's hear the good and the bad stories!!
well.... i found out long tube headers... and a 58 mm TB will make the car a completely different animal.
I had removed the supercharger during the header install... and ya know... I almost didn't put it back on... the car drove grrrrreat.
Although... i have had the supercharger back on about 3 days now... and geez almighty oh golly...heh heh... she shakes and bakes now... but.. am dealing with the wanting more ordeal now. I have that maf problem... and really want to put it after the blower... the throttle response if fanominal. When I put it before the supercharger... it only acts the same about 3k rpms and higher... I WANT MY CAKE AND EAT IT TOO...
Anyway.. check out this post... I made a new Y pipe to join my long tubes... and it and the TB gave me .4 seconds in the 1/8th mile and I gained 4 mph.
Guess that 383 needed to breathe... btw.. the headers were custom 1 7/8" primaries w/3.5 coll. that were custom made..... HUGE ! I thought they might be too big... but they really perform.
I've got one. I did some basic ported and polished heads (stock valve sizes) a GTP cam (not too radical so I could pass emissions), SLP Shorties, Meziere electric water pump, comp cams pro magnum valvetrain, 58mm tb. I love my 383!
Luckily I don't have any bad stories related to the 383 except that your tires might need to be replaced a little more often. So with shorty headers, cat's, 3.07's and 112,000 miles on the tranny and stock converterI have got it down to a 12.18 in the 1/4.
It's fun!

As it is in the pic on 92 octane it did 12.1@117 Worn Drag Radials with the stock ecm pinging the entire way down the 1/4 resulted in an 11.84@117. Haven't tested it with the dfi yet. It was wayy lean with the stock computer, so hopefully it'll have a mph or so gain. 383's are awesome for torque!!! :smash:

Re: Got a 383? Please sign in! (AlHale)
Bored out my 383 when I refreshed it last year. Added a lot of new stuff to handle the Nitrous. So I'm guesstimating its a 388 cid without doing an analysis. Same diff. Anyway, my signature has most of my modes.
I have a Lingenfelter 383 with ceramic coated headers, Borla exhaust, aluminum rad and 4.09:1 differential. It has all the power I need for a daily driver, but I would like to try some slicks at the strip to see if I could hook up better coming off the line. :D
I had one built about two years ago, then another, then another, then finally on the fourth try, they got it right. This engine builder has built all of my race engines and even a few for my everyday drivers, but for some reason he had trouble getting the 383 right. I didn't skimp on parts, all top quailty stuff. TPIS, DRM, AFR, all forged internals, but just couldn't get it to run correctly. Finally on number four, it all came together and I love it. I ran it about a year before giving up on trying to get a chip burned right for it and switched to DFI. That was one of my better plans. (should have done that from the start) From the beginning of the project to the end, almost every part had some type of problem except the AFR heads. Would I do it again.....in a heartbeat!

I have carbureted one for now, but will have Stealth Ram in the near future and FAST engine managment system. Also it will be getting ZF6 to help transfer all that power to the wheels.

The block is at the machine shop for it to be bored and stroked with an eagle crank to a 383.
AFR 195's should be here in January, with accel 74219 cam, superRam setup I am looking forward to summer already!!!
Mods link in my sig. Here's a dyno, but she's running out of gas. I'm still trying to figure out why. Happy for now. Heads just have a 3 angle valve job and parts mentioned in sig.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
