Default Hooker Headers

I've done the search, saw a lot of opinions on the various long tube setups but nothing that actually answered some of the questions I was looking for. Hooker long tubes $580 on summit, do they come with O2 bungs? Hows the fitment in correlation with spark plug access and blower motor. Do they require O2 extensions? Would you buy them again considering the price and ease of installation?

I've read a lot of great things about them but all the header manufacturers have been dealing with something that has made them keep pushing product shipping back months at a time. Earlier this year ordered hedmann and Hooker headers and both manufacturers pushed back shipping date by two months twice. For once, when I finally decide to buy headers and the money is good, the manufacturing of said product is not lol. Maybe it was just not meant to be...

The c4 hooker super comps have a single o2 bing in the number 7 primary. I would plug it, and when you buy a header flange and connector pipes simply weld an o2 bung Into one of the extensions if your headers are ceramic coated, if they are just mild steel weld it into the collector about an inch before the flange. Also, if you are keeping the stock main cat and your car is an 84-91, I have the hooker y pipe, new, used only for an hour of run time on a test stand.
this is the y pipe I have. It will work with the hkr-2149, hkr-2151, and hkr-2151-1. I'll take 175 shipped for it. Pm if you want actual pictures of the piece I have, I can also show you how I did o2 sensor bungs on my hkr-2149 headers in each collector. It's not difficult or expensive. With l98 angle plug heads the fit and access is great, afr 195 street ports are available in 64,72 cc with l98 angle on the plugs if you're planning heads. I have no issues with plug wire or boot interference. For the price they are ok, if I had it to do over again I'd probably have spent the extra money and got american racing headers and the pipes that come with them simply because they are ceramic coated stainless, and come with 3" x pipe already made to fit the c4 chassis.. But if you're using the 84-91 cat back exhaust and a single cat the hooker setup is good. They fit just fine. Hope this helps you in making a decision, I just installed mine about 3 months ago. I used the hkr-2149, the hkr-2151, and hkr-2151-1 fit and finish is identical. 2149 has emissions tubes and ceramic coated, 2151 is mild steel no emissions, 2151-1 is mild steel ceramic coated and does NOT have emissions tubes. Other than that they are identical https://www.holley.com/products/exhaust/x_pipes_y_pipes_and_h_pipes/parts/16720HKR

Yes I do, replied to your private message. In fact I'll be cleaning up the garage and can probably get it shipped today if you are ready to buy it. There is a FedEx close to me.

Just an FYI - the Hookers are all made in China now. I bought one set and the passenger side rear flange was crooked by over 1/8" and would never seal, couldn't even put the bolts in. Hooker found another passenger side to send to me and the flanges are straight, but where the tubes are welded to the flange there are problems. On one the shape of the port is so bad there is NO material between the port and header bolt hole, so it will never seal. Others have less than half of the .130-.140" area that the drivers side flange has. The Chinese quality control is, well, Chinese. So inspect any set you get carefully and make sure to buy from a place that will take care of you when they're not right. I'm still waiting on Hooker to do something with the passenger side header.

Also, the collectors pictured are the old "nice" Hooker collectors, but the collectors on the 2149's that I go look like the cheap Hedman style collectors that reduce hard right where the tubes enter the collector. For what they get for this brand we're getting screwed.

The other coated header in the $900 range is TPIS, mine should be coming any day now

I have had great success with Hedman Hedders on my Corvettes. I have a set on my C3 and the only problem I have had is spots appearing on the header pipes. They "Fit" perfectly without any Hammers, Torches or other modifications. Even with my Power Brakes and clutch hardware were not in the way. I would use them again in a heartbeat.

I could see picking the Hedman's on price, but for $900 or so either way I'd lean TPIS.

Wow...that i really too bad. The Hookers that I bought back in 2008 for my '86 were flawless. It is sad to see such a good name go south. I have been buying and using Hooker headers since 1983. probably 20 or more sets,I lost count . Mopar E body big block, Novas,Impalas big and small block. Chevelles and Malibu's A and G body. I have never had a bad set.

Why is the O2 bung in the #7 pipe? How does that measure all the left side? Looks like they "ghettoed" it on

Exotic muscle makes a nice stainless set as well, I'm sure for an upcharge they can coat them. Or you could always have a custom set made. For 2500. American racing has a set for 1800, stainless works has a set for 1500 plus. The hookers are pretty damn good for their price range, perfect they are not. As with all performance parts they require mockup, fitting, and usually little tweaks. But them uncoated for 550, do the gasket matching and clean up, then have them coated. Probably save you 150 bucks
