aklim again I am asking you to go away, start your own post and ask your stupid questions which have nothing to do with this topic, which is about an S 10 torque convertor, stop distracting from that so the rest of us can have an intelligent exchange of info!

Thoughts about changing to a lower ratio first gear if I had to refresh the transmission?
Wouldn't do it if it were mine. For a drag launch, blowing the tires off the car either means I need more tire, suspension work or ( more likely...) I need to work on my driving.

I think you'll be fine.

Worst comes to worst, drag radials on a steel wheel aren't all that expensive.

Wouldn't call it a drag launch. Probably around half throttle at a lonely road. Just wanted to be able to hit it harder with less spinning. Right now I have to be more careful if I want to avoid spinning. And if I have to rebuilt the transmission, maybe a different stall speed?

Edit: just came back from the tire place. I forgot that I was testing out something else. 5 years ago I put these tires on. However I bought them 14 years ago. Maybe they aren't worth a damm and I should get new ones post haste. Maybe the rubber is old and they spinning too much.

Having driven pretty well worked cars with the wrong stall... I wouldn't do it. They usually end up fighting you. The one I still have is something like a stock stall on an engine that really should have a 2000+ and sitting at traffic lights the thing just idling tries to push you through the brakes constantly. (It's a hydro boost so don't try and give me low vacuum crap either lol.)

It gets really doggy for lack of a better term too. Basically it just kind of bogs around and is kind of miserable to drive at normal pace because it just fights the converter constantly... on the loose converters that like to roast the tires I just go lighter on the gas... makes for a much more pleasant experience to me. Your car. Your call but I've been there done that and try to avoid it.

I'm really glad you enjoy the car. Just a quick look seems like that hits the so called sweet spot for an all around TC. I say, enjoy the hell out of it and light up those tires!

You guys are killing me. I'm with the late great Mark Donohue on the subject of tire traction vs hp.

The following quote has been attributed to Donohue: "If you can make black marks on a straight from the time you turn out of a corner until the braking point of the next turn, then you have enough horsepower."

and:

During the development of this motor (917/30), the German Porsche engineers often asked Donohue if the motor finally had enough power. His tongue-in-cheek answer was "it will never have enough power until I can spin the wheels at the end of the straightaway in high gear."

On a personal note, if I don't get wheelspin in a 3rd gear roll at 70-80 mph under good conditions, I'm disappointed and feel like I've got some more work to do. I've got a legit old log somewhere burning 4th gear at 90-100+ mph on a cold day/cold tires. Was fun, but the cold temperature was a big contributing factor.
