As you may know I'm having a real problem clearing a code 14 on my 85 Z51 Auto. I'm going to do some more checking and testing but the only thing left is to replace the ECM. So where is the best place to purchase one?
Good time to upgrade to the dynamic EFI or at least the 86+ computer. Fairly simple swap over. I've got my old ECM but the chip set was modified by TPIS to a different style prom or I'd offer it up to you. After a couple mail in tune tries to get my miniram ZZ4 swap running right I gave up and went dynamic EFI. Best thing I've done to the car since I bought it 23 years ago.

Thanks for the info but since I'm having a major problem I just want a stock replacement 85 ecm.

Did you stick with a MAF or go speed density? Growing weary of junk MAF sensors. I have a low mile used Bosch coming I hope this the last one for a while.
By the way TPIS could never get my 408 cid built motor to run correct. It was a joke. After 3 proms the owner at Street & Performance burned me one and ran superb not one glitch for half the cost. Sadly he passed away and they closed up.

I bought a rebuilt ECM for my 85 Z51 (Blue Streak Electronics #ECC6870) from Autozone. They had it in stock. I did not end up needing to replace my ECM, so I cannot comment on quality. ( I kept it as a spare.) However, I bought a rebuilt Blue Streak Electronics MAF for my 85 and it works very well, and is a perfect match with all the burnoff circuitry.
Oreilly Auto has the Cardone rebuilt ECM (#77-6870) in stock as well. I have no experience with Cardone products.
I just checked on Rock Auto and they have both in stock (less than $100 + Core charge).

A few weeks ago a fellow '85 owner was very happy with his $60 buy off of eBay. That seller has raised his price to $75 now but it seems it's a 'satisfaction guaranteed' or money back!! I'd stick with your diagnostics and I didn't follow your post but there's much to think on. If you've got quality meter and understand diagnostics there's much to do before you buy a thing. You might just for the he!! of it reseat the PROM and calpak in what you've got. While doing that see if yours is original or a replacement already.
I have an 85 4+3 ECM sitting on a shelf I've been wanting to get rid of...
One thing to look at if you are of the electronic curios type, the pull-up resistor inside the ECM may have a cracked solder joint, I can walk you through checking it if you are interested.
I also thought my ECM was faulty, so I went standalone, but as it turns out 35+ year old wires aren't super robust, it was a harness issue the entire time.

Mine is an automatic if it makes a difference. Thanks for the offer but I'm diagnostics out. Just going to replace it.
I bought one from autozone like 8 years ago that worked for a while then stopped getting pulse to the injectors. Took it back on a warranty and got another one. It worked fine til i pulled everything for LS swap.

85 ECMs are all the same except for PROMs, two bolts to pull the access panel and then stab the chip in and close it back up.

Same here, pulled the engine to fix the harness and said to hell with it, might as well put in an LS.

The Dynamic EFI converts the car to speed density. That 85 MAF and burn-off was another reason I just said "screw it" after TPIS couldn't get the car to run right and took the plunge.
