Default 1986 TPI V8

I'm seriously thinking about purchasing a 1986 Coup 4 speed manual. Could anyone tell me what the HP and torgue of this engine is. Thanks. I just sold my 1980 C3 and thought that I would move up. :rolleyes:

The early 86's had 230 hp 330 ftlbs tq. The later 86's got aluminum heads and had 235hp/335tq. The transmission was a 4+3. It has a 4spd Super T-10 with a 2 speed overdrive behind it. Be sure to check to see how well maintained the OD unit was. They normally need to have their fluid and filter changed about once a year.

Just some add info the over drive drops the ratio .68 in the 2,3,and 4th gears. if you want to know if the engine has the AL heads or Iron look where the bolts are for the valve covers, if they are in the center its AL if they are around the edges its Iron. good luck a great engine if proplerly mantained :cheers:

Their were two OD ratios. The OD ratio actually depends on options most 86 4+3 have 0.60 and the Z51 cars have 0.68 I am not sure what convertible came with though (I very little specs about 86 convertible as it was introduce mid year), but the 86 convertible press release mentions only 0.68 ratio. You can tell by the RPO codes, I believe the 0.68 carried the MK2 code (off the top my head), correct me if I am wrong.

Dave is right, MK2 is the 0.68:1 ratio.

230/330 for all coupes until #18,000 or so.
235/330 for later coupes and all verts.

Basically the early coupes are the same thing as an 85, with the difference being that the 86 has a 1 piece main seal.

Make sure that records of the OD maintenance were kept.

Here is a dyno chart from my 90k iron head '86 cpe (auto)*. No major mods, just some freebies for now.

Dyno Chart

The numbers are to the rear wheel in a climate comtrolled (70*) room.

* Individual results may vary.
