88 Vette random stutter/ shutoff
My gut tells me I've got a fuel delivery issue but as to what component or chain of components are involved is something I can't put my finger on. I'm even suspicious of other involvements such as a minimum idle setting while making a turn.
1st.
The first time I began noticing something has gone amiss was while driving and slowing down to take a turn or follow a curve, the idle speed occasionally drops down to below 400 rpm. Most times it recovers and keeps on running fine. However, other times and it seems to occasionally happen at the worst possible moment when I'm making a turn. In this case the engine just shuts off (low idle). So I struggle to finish the turn and get on straight road, then slip the transmission into neutral and the engine will usually crank right back up.
2nd.
More recently, still the usual occasional fainting occurs when making a turn, that is until just a couple of days ago.
What's happening now, is the engine will now occasionally stutter even on a straight road, then a few seconds later suddenly the engine shuts off. (as if starved for fuel). I throw it into neutral and attempt to restart .. but here's what happens. A) It will fire for about a second then die. B) It then acts as if out of fuel. So I keep trying to start it back up.
C) As if it were acting as if it were suddenly flooded, I hold the accelerator down and continue to crank .. but no dice.
D) After about the third attempt, it will fire up and run normally but I still get that occasional cutoff routine with excessively low RPM again. As a result, I've resorted to keeping my foot on the gas to keep the RPMs up (at least 600 - 1000) to avoid the engine shutdown due to low RPM.
I really need to correct this issue before it ends up putting me in a ditch or causing me to rear end someone on the road. (or worse).
I would appreciate feedback on this that may provide me some enlightenment as to how I can proceed to fix this or take it back to the shop to let them know what needs to be done.
Thanks.
Do you know how to check fuel pressure at the rail where the injectors are?
Try and ck for codes even if none are displayed (check engine light).
Make sure your wires that plug into the side of the distributor are in snug.
Almost sounds like a fuel pump or a failing component in the distributor but thats guessing.

I don't have the equipment to check the fuel pressure (although I know where to check it).
I don't have a code reader, but I am getting a "Service Engine Soon" dummy light and even it's acting inconsistently.
(At startup, no warning lights, but as I'm traveling down the road the light mysteriously comes on, (and even this is inconsistent) but then occasionally goes out on its own without any intervention.
Once I've reached my destination and the Vette has been parked for a little while, I get no warning lights when I start it up.
But on the way home (and this is inconsistent) the light occasionally comes on.. and either stays on till I get home or it goes out on its own again before I get home. Basically it's a repeat of the initial issue while on the way to the store.
All distributor wiring is as snug as can be.
One thing that has me suspicious is the sensors might be acting up or maybe even something in the ECM is malfunctioning.
Although, I doubt that could be at the root of the issue.
(The ECM is not original and it has been replaced at least once by a repair shop).
The one thing that is the most troubling now is the random stutter and shut down as if starved for fuel (even with a full tank).
So this has me thinking it's something primarily in the fuel delivery system.
I do recall the fuel pump has been replaced by a repair shop a couple of years ago along with another item in that chain of items which I don't clearly recall except it was probably a sensor.
