test an 85 ignition module
When I was testing ICMs for my car I wrote a script for an arduino that emulated the pickup coil, this basically tests the ECM reference circuit all the way to the ECM as well the ICM and HV side.
As far as the pickup and 8 tooth relucter you should be able to test that by simply hooking 12 volts to the coil and spinning the distributor gear. Spark should scatter from each terminal to the coil cover ground screws. But what this will not tell you is if the 7 pin is failing at rpm or when heat soaked.
Testing procedure for the 84-91 est hei distributor is basically the same as all early 74-82 vacuum advance hei distributors. Google it. Probably not explaining it very well, but it is extremely simple to verify if it's working.
If the car runs. Base timing at idle with est disconnected should be verified, then once est is plugged back in timing should advance while idling and when the engine is revved. What problem are you having exactly?
