I have a code 42 that stays on. I have replaced the ecm, distibutor, module, and set the timing, and I still can't get it to go off. Can someone help?
Thanks,
Shawn
Check the EST wire for a short or ground. With all those parts replaced it just might be that EST wire. I also see in the service manual that a Mem-Cal not fully seated in the ECM can cause a code 42. HTH.
Look down on the rear of the block, below the wiper motor. There is a 4 prog connector that runs to the back of your dist. mine had worked loose, and althoug it look to be connected, wasn't. had to remove the wiper motor to get my hand down there to snap it together, but that cleared up my code 42 I couldn't get rid of before..... good luck!! :smash:
The single "disconnect" wire is the one that connects the computer to the ignition module providing timing advance. Disconnected, the "base timing" is set. The computer cannot control the primary voltage circuit and defaults to base timing.
The factory service manual is the best source for information on this circuit. Darn things are great.
