There are a few. Motivation to change is low, on these here forums, however. If auto, it's financially more prudent to sell, buy a stick. If it's a stick, it's got a ZF6 already, which fits and is better...so....Not an overwhelmingly popular mod.
I have an 86 Convertible that the 4+3 was swapped out for a Tremec 5 speed before I purchased it. Only complaint I have about it is first gear acts more like a granny, tops out too soon IMO. About the only other changes I see is there as a Dakota Digital converter was wired into the speedometer to convert the tranny output signal to match the car speedometer. It drives well and fun on the road. If you plan to drag race, not sure it's the best solution due to the gear spacing IMO.
Because the transmission supports and is supported by the rear differential through the "C" beam; making it not a simple swap. C beam brackets more often need to custom made vs a off the shelf part.

Not sure if you have the 3.27 1st but the later offering TKX seem to have a better gear spread.
