exhaust question changing a cat back straight pipe

1992 base corvette
I am the recipient of a modified exhaust they removed mufflers and resonator. basically welded straight pipe after cats. what is the best way to fix this, I was going with new flowmaster mufflers and leave resonator eliminated and now lost the welder doing the job. should I buy a whole new exhaust system and add resonator or just get it welded back together. What does resonator do? My emissions requires mufflers so I bought flowmaster mufflers.
I dropped in a new stock motor and want proper backpressure all suggestions welcome

Looking at the work that was done to the existing system, I would try to find a stock system locally to replace it.

The resonator makes it a little quieter...you should pass cause you have mufflers now.
